A BT team will be setting off soon on a marathon battlefield bike ride to raise money for heroes wounded in action.
The team of six is headed by Global Services head of global banking and financial markets Andy Nicholson and includes four other BT colleagues as well as Simon Blagden, chairman of Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe. They will join 300 other cyclists on a ride along the D-day beaches of France from Cherbourg to Paris from 24-30 May to collect cash for the charity Help for Heroes, which supports injured servicemen and woman. Andy said: “Simon introduced me to Bryn Parry, who founded the charity, and also to a lot of people who have been injured in the course of their duty. “Until you meet people, you don’t realise what an effect being seriously injured can have on people’s lives - this charity does marvellous work to help people who have made a tremendous sacrifice.” Help for Heroes organises the Battlefield Bike Ride every year, and the riders will be cycling around 80 miles a day. “We’ve got some really fit guys on our team, although Simon and I are not among them!” said Andy. “We’re aiming to raise £50,000, and we’ve already had more than £22,000 pledged by our corporate sponsors, Eurocraft Enclosures, Smart Numbers, Comtec, Cisco, Avaya and Azurn EU. We’d also like to appeal to all our BT colleagues to sponsor us if they can - the money is genuinely going to a great cause.” You can sponsor the team by going online and find out more information about the charity at its website.
