Archers on target for win
Tuesday April 28th 2009.   Posted: 09:40
The competition was left quivering when a trio of Openreach archers shot their way to top spot in the 2009 Civil Service Indoor Archery Championships.
Engineer Keith Elsely from the South West and Scottish counterparts Dave Scobie and Ciaran Murphy combined to score 1,655 points out of a possible 1,800 in the team event, beating off competition from rivals including the Ministry of Defence, Treasury and Department of Works and Pensions to win the Interdepartmental Division. Ciaran said: “I’ve been an archer for more than 20 years and Dave joined the same club a few years back, so we’ve got a lot of experience between us. “Along with Keith we made a formidable team and it was great to win, while Dave’s score also made him the second best archer overall on the day.” A total of seven teams and 65 archers competed at the event, which was held at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. Ciaran said: “We’ve done well at the outdoor championships before, but this is the first time we’ve won indoors, so it was a great achievement.”
