BT Health has taken over a number of IT systems in the south of England

BT has reached a milestone in its work this week on the National Programme for IT by taking over several IT systems in the south of England .

Teams from BT Health taken over systems at NHS sites across the region as part of a six-year contract signed with the Department of Health in March.

BT Health is now responsible for IT systems at the eight acute hospital trusts in the South formerly managed by computer services company Fujitsu.

BT also plans to install electronic patient record systems - called RiO - at 25 community and mental health sites in the South.

Without a hitch

And BT will take over the service management of Map of Medicine - an online clinical resource used by all NHS organisations in the region.

BT Health’s local service provider programme director Peter Smith said: “The culmination of many months of meticulously detailed planning and hard work, the transfer happened quietly and went without a single hitch.

“In the same week I was also able to welcome to BT everyone who has joined us from Fujitsu. This means that we have been able to retain a great deal of knowledge and expertise which will play a vital part in ensuring continuity of service. I am delighted to have everyone on board.”
