Data centre first for BT Italia

round table event to launch new service

Journalists from top Italian publications were at the VDC press launch

BT is to launch a new virtual data centre in Italy for businesses and government organisations - one of the first companies in the country to offer this service.

The BT Virtual Data Centre (VDC) service in Italy will be available from January - offering round-the-clock support and service 365 days a year.

Corrado Sciolla, vice-president BT Italia, said: “BT is one of the very first companies in Italy to offer this service, and the only global provider that will be deploying it across a vast network of data centres both in the UK and Europe.

“The launch of the BT VDC service is just one example of innovation in of our Global Services product portfolio, illustrating that BT continues to invest in, and innovate, our capabilities to ensure customers have the best services.”

Virtual servers

BT VDC is based on a virtual platform, automatically supplying applications and services via its online portal. For customers that means they can change their infrastructure easily in real-time throughout the duration of the contract.

Large business and public sector organisations are able to purchase virtualised components and access them over a pre-provisioned infrastructure. Virtual servers, storage, security and networking capabilities are available, automated and managed through the online portal and supported by a single service desk.

“BT VDC will deliver a new and enhanced customer experience,” said Corrado. “Having the click-to-build and buy facility will give them flexibility and ease of provisioning. Deployment times will also be reduced from months to weeks, resulting in further cost savings.”
