Gary helped rescue the family before emergency vehicles arrived at the scene
|
Openreach engineer Gary Hands sprang into action to help free a family from their overturned Land Rover after it was involved in a serious road accident.
The Land Rover was in collision with another car moments before Gary arrived at the scene on the A428 in Rugby as he was driving to a job this week. He said: “The Land Rover was on its side and, as I pulled over and stopped, two men were helping to pull two young children from the vehicle through the door that was in the air. Both children were suffering from shock. “I opened the rear door and helped a man and woman who had been travelling in the front of the vehicle to get out. The woman had a nasty cut to her head and the man was clearly in a state of shock but he didn’t seem to be injured. “The emergency services were on the scene very quickly. Firefighters had to cut free the woman driver of the other car, who had been seriously injured. All five people were taken to hospital. “It was one of those situations where you naturally want to help the people involved.”
