Transform Sandwell has won an award from Birmingham City University

A BT joint venture has won an annual health care award - thanks to the support given to local university students by its learning and development team.

Transform Sandwell - a partnership with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough and Liberata - is based at the Sandwell Business Centre in the West Midlands. The accolade has come from Birmingham City University (BCU) Faculty of Health, which has recognised the team’s efforts in supporting BCU undergraduates studying for a degree in social work.

Fred Lynch, BT Global Services chief executive of Transform Sandwell, explained: "Our employees in the learning and development team mentor BCU students studying for a social work degree during their qualification process.

“A student unit has recently been established, which provides placements to enable students to work alongside qualified social workers - linking theory to practice, and developing their assessment, intervention and communication skills.”

Gary Cooke, Transform Sandwell’s head of learning and development, said: “This recognition is very much deserved for our learning and development team. It demonstrates service excellence in its purest form, and shows the tangible effect that our service provision is having on the recruitment of social workers.”

Transform Sandwell was launched in 2007 to deliver a range of council services. This latest award follows last year’s recognition of Transform Sandwell’s outstanding customer service - gaining Institute of Customer Service ServiceMark accreditation.
