BT launches Extra Box for second room
BT has launched Extra Box so that customers will be able to enjoy BT TV in a second room.

Customers will be offered the option of having two YouView+ boxes in different rooms in their homes.

The Extra Box will mirror the main box in the house – including all channel subscriptions and bolt-ons – thanks to high-speed fibre allowing multiple simultaneous viewing of live channels, in HD quality.

Customers will need to take out a 12-month Extra Box subscription for £5 a month and buy an additional BT YouView+ box for £99. The second box will come with all the functionality of the first, including seven-day catch-up TV, pause, record and rewind.

While Extra Box won’t be available to BT employees from launch, the BT Consumer team is working hard to bring this to employees soon.

Alex Green, BT director of TV, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer BT customers the added flexibility of having two YouView+ boxes in their home.

“Over the past year, we have transformed our service by introducing pay TV channels delivered in fantastic HD quality on our market-leading YouView+ box. We believe this offers the best quality TV experience and the most competitive bundle with fibre in the market.”

While Extra Box is only available on YouView, existing customers who have a BT Vision set-top box as their primary box can swap this for a YouView+ G4 box for £35.

Extra Box customers will need to have a line speed greater than 34Mbps – which covers the majority of Infinity customers – and there is a maximum two boxes per house.
