Emergency Services Network meets milestone
Emergency Services Network meets milestone

EE’s achieved its biggest milestone yet in the rollout of the UK-wide emergency services network (ESN).

The Home Office is satisfied we have substantially completed the agreed design, system testing and coverage delivery.

More than 250 new mobile sites have now been built. And since EE won the ESN contract in December 2015, our 4G geographic network coverage has grown from 54 per cent to more than 85 per cent of the country. This gives many rural and remote areas access to 4G for the first time.

In total more than 1,000 people have collaborated to meet contractual commitments on time.

Simon Frumkin says: “We’ve seen a really strong cross-functional effort across EE and Technology, Service & Operations, with excellent support from Wholesale & Ventures and Openreach and our key partners Huawei, Nokia and WHP Telecoms.

“It’s also hugely significant, because it marks the point at which the Home Office starts to repay our investment.”

The next key milestone will be to complete the delivery of ESN coverage and service by June 2018.

“I’m confident that with the drive, expertise and professionalism of this team we’ll be able to help the Home Office overcome the challenges of such a large and transformational programme,” says Simon. “And we’ll soon be bringing front-line emergency services onto the new network."
