Project Manager

What you’ll be doing

Working as a higher associate project manager apprentice in our Security team you will be responsible for working with project teams to ensure the success of a wide variety of projects. You will know what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved and how much it will cost.

BT's associate project managers utilise resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to work as part of motivated and integrated teams with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and authority.

With our training and ongoing support you'll not only learn the ropes but you'll develop personally learning skills such as:

  • Project Governance - how to control, manage the successful delivery of projects.
  • Project stakeholder management - managing how stakeholders' different perspectives, interests and levels of communication will influence project outcomes.
  • Project communication - key contexts of a communication plan and factors which can affect it.
  • Project leadership - the vision and values of the project and links to its objectives; how to communicate these in ways which engage the project team.
  • Risk and issue management - identify, monitor and manage risks and issues to keep projects on track.

Entry Requirements

GCSE grades 4-9 (C or above) in English Language and Maths. two A-Levels at CC grade (or Level 3 equivalent qualification).

Business Improvement

Working as a higher apprentice in our Supply Chain team you will be responsible for leading operational improvement initiatives within a busy distribution centre.

The role will involve engaging mangers and colleagues in understanding the operational process flows and capturing data to make improvement recommendations. When recommendations have been made you’ll need to lead on implementing them and ensuring they achieve the intended results, both in time, cost and process improvements.

You’ll also be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment. As a ‘Zero Harm’ organisation safety will need to be at the heart of everything you do. You’ll need to have a good understanding of safety and know when and where to obtain safety advice.

Training and support

With our training and ongoing support you’ll not only learn the ropes but you’ll develop personally too;

  • Stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills
  • You’ll be able to deliver small and medium change initiatives in BT Supply Chain operations teams
  • You’ll be data obsessed - able to identify suitable changes and track benefits realisation.

Improvement Practitioner

Working as a higher apprentice our Supply Chain team you will be responsible for leading operational teams through the Continuous Improvement (CI) programme, learning and implementing the four principles of CI deployment. You will set iterative target improvements and ensure long-term sustainable delivery across BT Supply Chain whilst ensuring best practice is shared across the growing CI community.

The Continuous Improvement (CI) programme in BT Supply Chain has an ambitious set of principles that seeks to make improving the way we work a core part of each employee’s role, every day. The programme is already delivering significant benefits across the group influenced by increases in revenue, reductions in cost, reduced cycle times, quicker time to market and a step change in the level of engagement and motivation of our people.

Training and support

With our training and ongoing support you’ll not only learn the ropes but you’ll develop personally too;

  • Stakeholder Management, Influencing and Communication skills.
  • You’ll be able to run CI workshops, presentations and 1:1 work within Supply Chain Teams to ensure progress against targets.
  • You will work towards and achieve relevant Lean / Six Sigma / Change Management BQF Qualifications in line with internal training.
  • You will build on your own Commercial Awareness to ensure you can track in-year and annualised financial benefits.

Defence Business Manager

This year we’re launching a new full degree apprenticeship working across our prestigious defence sector. You’ll be part of our defence team that supports the Ministry of Defence. The purpose of this team is to use the power of communications to safeguard our nation at home and abroad.

  • This is a four year scheme that includes five rotations with your first four in Project Management, Service Management, Contract Management and Sales. Each rotation will be 9-12 months giving you a broad range of skills and experience.
  • The final rotation is optional and is in one of the business areas, allowing you the ability to choose your career path and demonstrate your area of interest and strength.
  • Each rotation will give you the opportunity to learn and develop in all elements of business management from working on a sales opportunity, to playing an instrumental part in the full lifecycle of projects ranging in size and complexity.

Full degree – you’ll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) three A-Level's with a minimum of BCC grades. You’ll also need to have a minimum of five GCSE's at grades 4 – 9 (GCSE C or above) including English Language and Maths. You’ll need to achieve these grades by Sept 2019.

Due to the work we do across UK Government to protect critical national infrastructure, a level of security clearance will need to be obtained.

Business Manager

Working as a full degree apprentice in our Client Services Management team you’ll be expected to use your skills to deliver Service and Delivery customer and business outcomes to joint expectations.

Here’s a little bit about our team:

  • As part of one of our Client Services team, you’ll be working with one of our largest government customers, the Ministry of Defence, in the UK. What we do matters to their end users and affects the delivery of defence capability in the UK and worldwide.
  • You’ll be working as part of a wider team to manage the Service and Delivery relationship on behalf of BT with accountability for successful delivery to the customer. You will also get the opportunity to deliver your own smaller projects from start to finish as part of Service improvement activity. Each of our projects and their outputs are unique, which means it’s an exciting place to learn new skills.
  • The role of a Client Services Manager typically involves the achievement of the contractual service requirements, generating an improving trend in customer satisfaction by continually improving the services within a defined service strategy. You will also be the customer interface if there are any service issues arise. You might be helping to resolve issues with service delivery or coordinating activity across multiple sites or suppliers to achieve an outcome. You’ll need to be enthusiastic, organised and good at communicating with a desire to deliver a great customer experience.
