Software

BT’s foundation is built on brilliant software, our full degree and higher Software apprentices will gain hands-on experience of the full IT life-cycle (design, develop, implement, test and support), which includes learning how to deliver brilliant software and be part of the team to provide effortless experience for our customers and our people; wherever they are in the world, using whatever device and technology they choose. These roles focus around human centred design and will put the customer at the heart of everything you do.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of how the business operates, developing your skills and knowledge and discover what you enjoy. You will be encouraged to expand, challenge and nurture your curiosity, to be the best you can be!

During the apprenticeship you will work towards a recognised qualification. Full degree apprentices will work towards a BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree specialising in Software. Higher apprentices will work towards a Foundation Degree in Software.

Entry requirements

Full degree apprenticeship - You’ll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) three A-Levels with a minimum of BCC grades, including a STEM subject or equivalent. You’ll also need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C or above) including English Language and Maths.

Higher apprenticeship - You’ll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) two A-Levels with a minimum of CC grades, including a STEM subject or equivalent. You’ll also need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C or above) including English Language and Maths.

Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Networks

BT’s network is at the heart of everything we do; from sending a text, to air traffic control. BT is an ever growing company which means our network is constantly evolving and we are constantly at the forefront of cutting edge technologies that will be the basis for the next generation mobile networks and services.

Our full degree and higher apprentices play a key part to ensure that our networks are designed, tested, built and maintained with fresh, new, innovative ideas in mind. There is a broad array of network roles within BT. As an apprentice network engineer you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a number of areas including testing the latest networking technology, upgrading the existing network and the planning, installing and running of network elements. You may also get the opportunity to gain in depth understanding of mobile networks and the technologies that underpins this, playing a part in supporting and maintaining high levels of stability and performance of the biggest and best Mobile network in the UK.

Within the network apprenticeship, the roles are technically orientated. So, if you have an interest in what goes on 'behind the screen' and you have a real passion and drive to learn how it all works, networks is the place for you.

Data Analyst

We have two full degree Data Analyst apprenticeships on offer; Research & Innovation and Voice & Data

Research & Innovation

Innovation is at the heart of BT’s business. Our Research and Innovation teams work at the cutting edge of new technologies, exploring how we and our customers can benefit from them. For the first two years you’ll work in a number of technical areas with our world-leading teams, using science and engineering to help solve problems for our business and our customers. Working on real projects, you could be conducting experiments to test new equipment or new techniques, building prototypes using new technologies, or developing software to analyse and solve problems. After two years, you’ll choose a specialist area and by the end of your apprenticeship you’ll be on your way to becoming an expert in your chosen field.

The academic partner for this apprenticeship is the University of Exeter, and apprentices will work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in Data Analytics. More information on this degree can be found on the University of Exeter website.

Voice & Data

The Voice and Data operations teams working within BT on the EE mobile network, are a collection of highly skilled engineers that support a range of technologies that in turn makes up the network that delivers mobile services to our customers. Anything from making a phone call, sending a text, or accessing your favourite website and social media apps. They are largely invisible but are an essential element, without them we would not have a business. It is an exciting place to be, learning an abundance of new skills and working in a fun team environment here in Bristol. We may be part of a big company but the operations team feels like working for a small, dynamic and innovative company at the forefront of new technology, in a supportive team environment.

As a Data Analyst you will be developing expertise in data mining, looking for trends in performance data, driving in depth analysis in support of the Operations teams. You will develop a detailed understanding of mobile network technologies and platforms, to enable the extraction and manipulation of key data. You will be heavily involved in the analysis of real-time data to enable the identification and resolution of incidents and problems.

The academic partner for this apprenticeship is the University of Exeter, and apprentices will work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in Data Analytics. More information on this degree can be found on the University of Exeter website.

Entry requirements (both apprenticeships)

Full degree apprenticeship - You’ll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) three A-Levels with a minimum of AAB grades, which must include one of the following subjects; Maths, Physics, Computing, Electronics, or Engineering. You’ll also need a minimum of six GCSEs at grades 6 – 9 (B or above) including Maths and two other STEM subjects, and GCSE English Language at grade 4 (C) or above.

Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Business Analyst

As a full degree apprentice you will work as part of our Investment Management team who own the Mobile Networks capex budgeting/roadmap process. The Business Support Specialist role will undertake a variety of activities including supporting our devolved governance boards, managing approvals from other lines of business who require technology to do work for them, and supporting business/process change through stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering and analysis.

The academic partner for this apprenticeship is the University of Exeter, and during the apprenticeship you will work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in Business Analytics.

TV & Digital Media - opening soon

Our TV & Digital Media roles will get you involved in the design, delivery and support of BT TV and all the associated systems that have to work together to provide a complete, end to end, TV service. You’ll also be working on the design, delivery and support of BT’s UK and Global Media Networks which carries content for customers such as the BBC, ITV & Star TV. During your apprenticeship with BT TV & Content you will rotate around a number of teams. This will ensure you gain a full understanding of the broadcasting and IPTV technologies you study as part of your honours degree, whilst also giving you an opportunity to understand what is involved in providing the very best service to our customers.

During the apprenticeship you will work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions.
