We're nurturing young app developers
27 August 2015
We’re helping budding app developers as young as nine.
Our Adastral Park site in Ipswich staged an event in the global Young Rewired State (YRS) Festival of Code. It’s the fifth year we’ve played host.
Nineteen young people aged under 18 came to create code for games and useful apps. The youngest was nine. She was one of 1,200 young people who got involved in the festival in the UK and internationally.
Rika Nauck from research and innovation hosted the week-long event.
“Some of the younger ones and beginners didn’t totally fulfil the brief,” she says. “But they still came up with great games using various programming tools.”
Four teams were then showcased their ideas at a competition in Birmingham.
Bob Moss took the lead for us at the competition event with Mohammad Zoualfaghari in support. Mohammad also played a big role helping teams during the Adastral Park event.
One of the four teams reached the finals in the Best Example of Design category. Their app scours the web for useful facts and builds quizzes from the information.
“Getting this far in the competition is a first for us,” says Bob. “Every year an increasing number of competitors continue to blow us away with their brilliant ideas, ambition and enthusiasm.”
