BT MyDonate launches new Facebook page

21 January 2015

Fundraisers and charities can now share stories, pictures and videos on BT MyDonate’s new Facebook page.

BT’s free online fundraising service for UK charities and fundraisers has raised over £31m for charity and signed up more than 8,000 charities since it was launched in 2011.

Leasa Buhlman, senior marketing manager for BT MyDonate, said: “Social media is a fantastic way for fundraisers, wherever they are across the country, to share ideas, become inspired, support and learn from each other.”

“We’re hoping our Facebook page will support a vibrant community of like-minded people, committed to raising money for great causes.

“This month we’re highlighting fundraising in which people overcome obstacles, and over the next few months we will be featuring activities that involve learning something new and breaking bad habits.”

She explained: “The attraction for charities is that, unlike many fundraising platforms, BT MyDonate does not take a set-up fee, subscription charge or commission. For a charity, that represents up to 63p more for every £10 donated when Gift Aid is included.”

One charity benefiting from this boost to funds is The Life Association. For 20 years, it’s been raising funds to build schools and children’s homes for Dalits who are at the bottom of the Hindu caste system.

Simon Hawthorne, from the charity, said: “Our partnership with BT MyDonate is brilliant because we get the Gift Aid benefit and we also save the fee that many other similar organisations charge – up to five per cent. We could provide education, food, healthcare and clothes in a loving home for a child for a year with the additional money raised.”
