I am delighted to have been appointed Chair of the North East regional board. We’re one of the biggest private sector employers in the North East with a workforce of more than 8,500. Some of our biggest contact centre sites are in the region, including Newcastle and Darlington. We also have a major presence in Sunderland, South Shields and in North Tyneside.
It was great to see our Chief Executive visit the North East recently, where he met Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen. He was also interviewed by the business editor of the Northern Echo about our importance as a local employer, our growth and recruitment plans. And he visited the local EE store to meet colleagues and customers.
In this issue of In Touch you can read about how the BT contact centre in Newcastle celebrated its 20th anniversary, and how we’ve been helping young people in the region get ‘work ready’ with free BT work placements. BT was also a headline sponsor of the Dynamites 17 awards which recognises the amazing talent in our region.
There’s also news about the latest Teesdale community to be upgraded to high-speed fibre broadband thanks to the Digital Durham partnership.
The North East has huge potential and I along with my colleagues on the regional board will continue to support the region to achieve maximum productivity and economic growth.
Simon Yellowley, Chair of the North East Regional Board
