BT have opened a cash machine in a former phone kiosk in a Devon seaside town
Following the closure earlier in 2017 of Salcombe’s last bank, BT has worked closely with Cardtronics – operator of Cashzone ATMs – as well as local businesses and bank partners to find a suitable site for the machine. It will help meet the high demand for cash in the popular tourist destination and means Salcombe now has two ATMs providing access to cash 24/7.
Paul Coles, Regional Partnership Director, said “It’s great news for Salcombe that the latest technology is being used to provide this important service for local residents and visitors. This new use for our kiosk is another example of the vital role communications play in all our lives. And it shows how existing services can be adapted to meet new circumstances.”
Tim Halford, Managing Director of Cardtronics UK and Ireland, adds: “Local businesses can be certain their customers will remain loyal to Salcombe’s high street, knowing they can shop and get their money out at the same time.”
The latest installation follows a UK-wide trend for high street banks to establish partnerships with independent ATM providers. Cardtronics research has shown that continued access to cash on local high streets helps businesses to keep up footfall and customer loyalty.
